The girls were three weeks old on Monday. Stats:
Hazel: 3 pounds (although hadn't been measured since Sunday); 40.5 cm long; 28 cm head circumference
Abby: 2 pounds, 15 oz; 38.5 cm long; 28 cm head circumference
&
Nancy: 168 pounds
I met up with Toni (Matt's aunt) at the hospital before going into the NICU. A friend of hers at church had made the cutest hats for the girls. Between those hats and Becky's, the gi
I tried to hold both girls at the same time, but Hazel kept having episodes, especially desats (down to the 50s and 40s), so the nurse (Barbie) felt like she needed to go back into the isolette. After that, Hazel was fine. So I ended up holding Abby for over two hours (she did really well).
I also asked the nurse about what Dr. Breed had heard with Abby's heart on Sunday. Barbie said neither she nor Dr. Kinstra had heard anything on Monday, and the EKG strip had been clear, so perhaps Abby had just had an irregular heart beat at the time Dr. Breed was evaluating her, which apparently can be normal in premature babies.
Aside from that, both girls seem to be doing well. Dr. Kinstra left a message saying their labs looked good, although both were slightly anemic (but not concerning) and were taking iron. Monday was also the last day of the medication (the name of which I can never remember) to help with the residuals, so we'll see how they do off of it.
