With a pseudo-newborn in the house, we didn't make any major plans for Matt's big day, but I tried to make it as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. Plus, as he joked, today he'd be able to tease me "with impunity." Nothing like starting the morning with the power being out (and the accompanying worry that everything in the fridge/freezer - all of the breast milk!!! - would be spoiled), but fortunately that was resolved really quickly.
So, after a late lunch of Torchy's Tacos (thanks to Kevin & Margie for the awesome gift card), we fed and diapered Miss Abigail and headed up to the NICU to visit Hazel. Dr. Breed had called about her earlier in the day and said she was doing well and he was still planning to do her sleep study tonight. Woohoo!
Since it was Father's Day, we of course took some Daddy and daughter pictures ... and the girls wore cute purple dresses for the occasion. ;) We watched Barb the nurse give Hazel her Prilosec (30 min before feeding, given 2x a day) and then were going to feed her, but at that point had to be kicked out of the NICU due to shift change. We stuck around until shift change/nurse report was over, and visited her again, but couldn't stay too long because Abby was being fussy (she had been fussy all day, but doesn't really like staying in her carseat too long - unless it is in the car while it is moving). I was again reminded why I had not been able to visit Hazel since early last week - it definitely required two adults to visit when bringing in Abby. Le sigh. Hopefully this problem will be a problem no longer.
Ironically, we left Hazel a bit early so we could get a nice dinner for Matt (he was craving steak), yet we didn't end up leaving the hospital until 9:45 because Abby decided she was hungry again (perhaps another growth spurt?). So we headed home, tried to call for pickup at a few places with no luck, and ended up getting What-a-burger for a late dinner, which was interrupted because Abby decided she was hungry ... AGAIN (seriously, growth spurt???).
All in all, nothing too exciting during the day, but good news that Hazel is still doing well. And even though Matt didn't get his steak, I think he had a good day.
Hazel weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces today. We weighed Abby too - with clothes and a diaper, she weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces. Woohoo! And, as we were walking out of the hospital, Matt told Abby that the M16A2 also weighs about 8 pounds...such a Marine daddy thing to say. :)
