NICU Reunion

We attended our first NICU reunion this afternoon.  After loading up the car with the girls and the stroller, we took the still familiar drive up north to St. Davids.  The girls napped in the car, but were awake when we arrived, and after shaking off the sleepies had a great time looking around at all of the people and activities (geared mostly toward older kids, like a bouncy house, face painting, and a balloon artist).

Sadly, there were not many nurses present, and we didn't see our doctor or any of the others that treated Hazel and Abby.  I did get to catch up with Victoria, our OT, who recognized us and was super impressed with the girls' head control (she was proud of our tummy time consistency, too).  Matt and I also got a chance to speak with Yvette, the director, and Matt thanked her again for her words of advice we received when we first started our NICU adventure ("one step forward, two steps back").  She also told us the reason most nurses weren't present was they had just been slammed with admissions, which makes sense.

The other fun thing was we were able to meet/catch up with some of the other families we remembered from the NICU (and are members of our Facebook group).  Universally, all looked great, and it was nice to see how everyone had thrived after their stints in the hospital.  We also happened to run into the person at the hospital that does birth certificates - even after six months she remembered us!  Probably because you don't hear too many people being named Hazel nowadays.  But it was still pretty cool.

And, as a last note, everyone really seemed interested in our stroller.  "Purple!  I love purple!" was a frequent comment.  Kudos, Matt.  :)

Checking out the activities.
Dad saying hello during the party.
Hmm, thinks Hazel, as she grabs her foot.
Too much activity.  Abby decides to take a nap.
