Papaw came to visit the girls this weekend. After he arrived we chatted for a bit, and after a few things were accomplished, we headed up to the NICU for some quality Hazel and Abby time. I took some great pictures!
It is amazing. I was there just yesterday, but the turnover even since then is pretty big. Plus, instead of the usual nine babies, there were 12, including at least two boys! It is a girls only sanctum no longer. :) When we arrived around 8:45 pm, Jane the nurse had held off on feeding Hazel so we could do it. I jumped in immediately; she started off great, but about halfway through started bradying every few seconds. Then, after getting that out of her system so to speak, we finished the bottle without any incident. Jane, who has had the girls before, told me this is a pretty common occurrence at 8:30 but the rest of her feeds are normally fine.
Originally since NICU3 is so small and the room was so nuts with people, the unit clerk told us we'd only be allowed two people at the bedside. Of course, we have TWO bedsides, but it was crowded, so I didn't argue with her, and only Matt's dad and I went in, with Matt waiting outside. Jane soon rectified that, though - Abby was hungry, Jane thought her dad should feed her, so Jane brought in Matt. Pretty cool of her. And, after the 8:30/9:00 pm mass crush of parents there for feeding time, most everyone left, so having the three of us in there was not a big deal.
After the girls finished eating, they napped, and Matt and his dad held them until about 11:15p (you really could do this for hours), and then we got a relatively quick bite to eat at Kerbey Lane and headed home. I pumped, then went to bed, and my alarm went off so I blindly got up to pump. But, as I sit here at 5:30 am, I just realized my alarm went off too early - I was planning to get up for the first time an hour from now. Darn it. :)
As far as updates go, Dr. Wheatley came by and said they would like the girls to be gaining more weight, so they are going to do a half formula/half breastmilk combo to up their calories, starting as soon as the girls finish off what has already been mixed. And, Abby's last episode is still May 24, so we may be getting close to another sleep study. Hazel, of course, still is in the perpetual countdown.
